Looks pretty cool, Tascam have a long history in recording gear so they know their stuff, I agree with JayJay though if you can get to a local store it would be good to see and hear it in action, if you can't, see if you can find some reviews, the Cubase might only be the basic programme to start you off so you will probably have to upgrade if you want more effects and mixing tools.

Thanks guys. I put your comments and suggestions forward to Santa, so we'll see what happens. I also noted though that the TNT bundle does the recording on a standard cassette. Isn't this a little outdated?
I don't know if it makes a difference or not but I should have mentioned that I only play acoustic guitar (steel strings and nylon strings) right now. My daughter has an electric. She's not recording yet either, but I'm sure she will someday (once I start).

Nutty,
Ok, I've had some minor purchases from Sweetwater in the past. Found their phone people to be very knowledgeable. As well!!! They DID NOT try to convince me to go with the next more expensive item. I explained my needs, told them what I was looking at in the catalog or on line and he directed me to another piece of gear that was about the same cost but seemed to fill the need better.
I would call them and let them know what you want to do. They may have some other gear that would hook up to the PC and do a better job for the same amount of money. Like I said, the folks I've talked with there are good, knowledgeable and didn't seem to push me toward the high dollar items.
Hope that helps,
Andy S.

I think you are mistaken. I see a USB Direct In box with minimal mixing capabilities. The recording is done on the computer.

I agree with Fly, Nutty, I've read through the description and unless I've missed something this set up is for Home recording straight to your Personal Computer, some of the portable Tascam units have Cassette but I'm pretty sure this doesn't have cassette as it's main recording method

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
