How to attach hemp guitar strap to acoustic?
Hi folks
I finally got my first ever guitar strap in the post today! It's made of hemp, and there is a hole at each end.
I tried to fit one of the holes over the knob at the bottom of my guitar, but the knob is too big for the hole. Do I force it onto the knob? I'm worried that I might tear the material.
Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

I can't speak for hemp but, that is common to most new guitar straps. The material is stiff at first and it takes a bit of work to get the strap on the first few times till it breaks in. Look at it this way. If the material rips when you try to put it over the strap button, it is too flimsy to risk your guitar with.

Thanks for the tips! I managed to get the hole over the button after much wiggling back and forth!
I used the piece of twine that came with the strap to attach the other end around the head, under the strings. (As shown in photo)

The twine looks like a very weak link in your strap, I would concider using something like a shoe lace or even better would be some paracord.

Hi Krissovo
Thanks for that, as it happens I saw that suggestion on another website earlier when I was Googling. I will have to try it, as I agree, the twine does look rather thin!

Actually, hemp twine is extremely strong. Hemp rope was in fact, used at one time as docking rope for the huge ships. And then of course because of it's shared DNA with the other "hemp", it was outlawed and became illegal to grow.

Not like your going to be jumping off the drum riser with the nylon string acoustic anyway, but... it I would substitute the paracord at your convenience.

Hey Dewy,
Please explain what a nylon string acoustic is, I've been led to believe that an acoustic has steel strings and a classical has nylon strings.

Hmm? My Classical doesn't have a knob for a strap, I just assumed none of them do.

As you can see, I have now got a length of thong in place of the hemp twine. The thong is attached to a big lobster claw fastener, which is attached to a heavy-duty metal loop which goes through the hole at the end of the strap. It looks a lot sturdier now!
