Guitar leads

Hello all. As pretty much a complete novice when it comes to electric guitars I just wanted to ask some advice. I have been given a Crafter electric guitar set with small amp, but the lead i have been given doesnt work so I need to get a new one.
Are they all basic leads? Does it depend on what amp you have? Sorry to ask such a silly question, but i havent a clue!

Unless you have a very strange guitar or amp, they're all the same connectors - 1/4" mono jacks on both ends (I guess in metric they'd be called 7mm or some such).
