Jay Jay is right. Unless you have luthier skills and tools you may as well put rubber bands on a cigar box. The tools you need cost a lot of money. The following site has kits, tools, already fretted necks etc. including how to build intruction.

I'm not saying don't do it but consider the cost. My son wanted he and I to build one and he is a very skilled wood craftsman. We changed our minds when we saw how many specialized tools were needed to do a proper job.

Stewart-MacDonald: Everything for building and repairing stringed instruments!

Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

Guitar Fetish is a popular web site for low cost pups. They seem to be respected for quality at the price. You probably already know that the LP uses double humbucking pups.

Humbucker Sized Pickups

Unfortunately it's hard to really determine the particular variation in tone between the various offerings. Good luck and let us know how it turns out. Are you buying a pre-made neck/fretboard?

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
