Need Help Deciding Which Seagull S6 To Buy

Hi All,

I'm new here and have decided to take up guitar again. I used to have a lower end Fender acoustic about 8 years ago (cost around $250 at the time) but got rid of it because I just didn't play. I'm ready to start again, and get serious this time. I know some basic chords but its been awhile so I am hoping to buy a guitar that is good for beginners but can last as well. I'm pretty sure I want a Seagull S6 based on reviews etc. I have fairly thick fingers (fingertips to be exact) and I've read that the Seagull S6 series have a wider nut width which could help. However, there seems to be a number of different types in this model series and I'm having a hard time making sense of it all. Can anyone help layout the diffrences in the S6 series? I'm heading to a local shop or Guitar Center in the next couple of weeks to try them out. I'm hoping to spend around $300 give or take a few dollars.

Thanks!
KL

Hello KL,
Your going to be looking at a cedar top guitar with cherry back and sides as I recall, for $300.
Seagull was on my short list when I was in the market. I think you made a great observation about the string width. The extra space will make it easier for you. Something I regretted for about a year.
You should really like the guitar. They seem well made and get nice reviews. Godin has a few guitar brands if you want to look around a little more.
Deciding on the body style may be more important than you may remember. Try a few body styles vs just buying a dreadnought.
Different feel and sound.
Good luck
Mike
P.S. you may try Ultimate guitar band, his site is Temporarily Disabled
He is well thought of on this site and could get you started on the right track.

Thanks Mike! I will keep in mind to try some other Godins as well as body styles. I'll post back in a few weeks when I've made my decision (I know a few weeks seems like a long time but I've been deciding on what flat screen TV to buy for 6 months! lol).

They recently added an Entourage cedar top which sells for a bit less than the original S6, about $300. Then there is the original and the S6 slim which has a more traditional size neck. All very nice and the Acoustic/electric version is on the list for me later on.

Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.

If you have purchased your guitar already kl let me know which you decided on. I recently bought an S6 Original and it is worth every single penny. The originals typically list for more than $300 but I was able to talk down the guitar store clerk to $300 with a gig bag. All of the S6 models sound different and they are all made very well. I particularly like the sound of the original better, mine is a cedar top (I believe spruce is available too) and the Originals have real rosettes around the sound hole where as the Entourage has a cheap sticker rosette that you will probably want to pull off.

I highly recommend Seagull S6 guitars for anyone that is new or even for those that have been playing awhile and need another inexpensive acoustic that is very well made and sounds great. Can't beat the fact that it has a solid top!!!

I noodled with one of these today while I was in another city and almost bought it. The crippling vehicle repair bill I just paid stopped me though.
