Did I make the right decision?

After spending 2 months with the crappy acoustic I got for £28 (paints coming off, buzzing bass strings.) I forked for another super-budget guitar - an electro-acoustic this time!

The one I've just ordered is: Collins CD28CE NT

It's made by collins, a random guitar manufacturer with limited entries in google. You can find a review entry in ultimate-guitar.

The review seems to be quite good though, for something that's £56 including P&P.

Spruce top, not solid wood by the way.

Any thoughts? I'm quite a newbie and is still struggling with the D-chord.

Sounds and looks ok to me. You don't want to spend a fortune on a guitar unless it sticks with you. As long as it sounds decent and the strings don't buzz on you too much, you probably will do ok.

Becoming a great guitarist has less to do with fancy moves than it does becoming a master of the basics and learning musicianship.
It's not what you can't do. It's how you play what you already know.

That sounds awesome. Post some pics when you can. And don't worry about that D-chord. I used to be the same way-you will get it! Keep practicing.

Make sure that someone experienced looks it over and gets the action right. Even a good quality acoustic can be hard to play if it isn't set up properly.

It's not always about how much a guitar costs, if the guitar has some good reviews and it sounds ok and is easy to use when you're playing then you've made the right decision, the advice Fly has given you is worth following just to make sure the guitars spot on.
Getting a chord right just takes practice, your speed will improve as you become more experienced, to get a chord place your fingers one at a time and practice laying your fingers on the strings, eventually the chord will come naturally.

I'll most definitely put some pics up. Anyone think that they'll be able to judge the quality of the guitar sound if I put up a mp3 recording? (just random strumming, of course.)

Don't think that will be a problem Dishwasher so give it a go Play all the strings individually as well as a strum though.
