Didn't get the Amp I thought I was getting

Went back for another marathon guitar store outing yesterday with every intention of getting a Vox AD30VT. I'd tried one several weeks ago and liked it well enough, but figured I'd try it again just to be sure and grab it up. So armed with 2 of my dream guitars

FENDER® AMERICAN VINTAGE HOT ROD '57 STRATOCASTER® WITH CASE - Elderly Instruments

DEAN USA HARDTAIL CLASSIC QUILT, MIDNIGHT BLUE FINISH WITH CASE - Elderly Instruments

(I also had a Dean Black gold V with me Because I think it sounds close to my Icon) went back into their amp room. For those of you who are really into metal The Ad30vt is a pretty nice little amp and the price is certainly right. It has settings for days and the preset modeling stuff isn't to bad. You can adjust more things then I've seen on an amp in this price range. I also plugged into a Roland cube 30 (another amp I'll probably own in the next few years) very nice tones out of that one also. But I plugged into this

VOX DA20 20 WATT PORTABLE AMPLIFIER - Elderly Instruments

I loved the sound out of this on all 3 guitars. Compared to the AD30VT the controls are limited and no where near the distortion capabilities. Actually the amps aren't even in the same league, but my ear just couldn't get away from the clean tone and the twin speakers in that little amp is a nice setup. I was on my bike so I couldn't get it right then, but ordered it as soon as I got home, Can't wait until the end of the week.

It pays to try out different amps etc to get what you really want according to your budget.
Congrats!

Good for you - congrats! Things like that often happen when you go looking for something with an open mind - turns out what you thought you wanted wasn't really what you wanted at all!

Excellent, Scott, congrats!

Thought I was gonna have to wait til the first of the year, but I picked up some overtime so it worked out. Couldn't believe the difference those 2 speakers make together, gives it a kinda stereo sound that's pretty sweet and I liked the low end I was getting. Can't wait to hook up my multi-fx to it and plug in the Icon. Now I guess everything is saving up for the strat (well maybe a phaser pedal haha). Man I love playing guitar!

If you've already got a multi-fx pedal, then half of the value of the AD30VT would have been wasted anyway, since it's selling point is the inbuilt effects and amp models. The included one valve is a gimmick IMO, just so you can say your amp is a valve amp, you know?

That's why I'm getting a Vox AC15R. It has just a good overdrive and clean tones, and reverb (which is all I want). Not lots of effects, but the tones it has are nice.

So good call, dude!
