Technical String Question

I have a bariton ukulele (tuned like a guitar's highest four strings) and the G string #3 broke. It was made by GHS and is 0.029 Bronzewound Nylon string. No one around sells uke strings but I can buy a Nylon guitar string, a D string that is wire wound and 0.28

Would this work as a replacement even though it is labeled a D string not the G I need? Can I just go by diameter?

Thanks to the geniouses out there.

It would work. But there are strings available for you on line for a great price.

My rule is to never put the wrong kind of strings on a stringed instrument. I imagine a uke, like other nylon stringed instruments is not braced enough to survive the tension of steel cored strings. Best to get the right strings and save yourself a nasty surprise down the road.

I'd have to say that's good advice to follow. You might not have any problems, with it being roughly the same string gauge and all.....but why chance it?

The particular string is a nylon string, just wire wrapped, like one of the other Uke strings. I know I can mail order them but hate to spend $6 shipping on a $3 item.

I always use that as a perfect excuse to buy some other stuff along with the strings!
