Good cheap acoustic?

The title pretty much says it all.

Im looking for a decent but cheap make of acoustic guitars. Any recommendations? Ive got about £100 - £150 to spend on one.

Thanks.

How does that 100 -150 translate into U.S. currency?

That's approx. $200 -$300 Skip, you could check the Classifieds bigbadsad, I picked up a cheap electro - acoustic on Ebay for £30 a few months ago which is actually quite a nice guitar with a good tone, so you can get lucky there, sometimes the local music shops have second hang guitars could try thar option as well.

You should be able to get something nice for that kind of money. Not outstanding, but well built with decent materials and tone. XFourstring had a good idea, I'm sure you'll turn a better quality guitar used if it has been cared for.

The Tanglewood TW28 has been the best-selling entry-level acvoustic for some years now. Before that, I think it was the Yamaha F310, but also have a look at an FG720. Crafter have a good reputation too.

You won`t go far wrong with a Yamaha at this sort of price range - my first half decent acoustic was an FG and after ca.15 years service it got passed it on to my next door neighbour who is learning on it.

Best to try a load of guitars though - you`ll know which one is right for you when you meet it

+1. Yamaha makes good-quality instruments for that price point, and are definitely worth a look.

I've got a Yamaha FG312 II, they are well made and agree that they are of good quality for the price range, I love mine and would never part with it. It is worth trying out a few though just to see what suits you. X4strings pawn shop idea is good, there are five Cash Converter shops in the Liverpool,Mersyside area there might be one near you, they always have musical instruments in, I bought a Keyboard from the Truro Branch 6 years ago and it's still going strong so they're reliable, you can also put a deposit down and pay the balance when you collect the instrument. If you have a friend that plays guitar it would be worth taking them along just to make sure the instrument is in good order.

Good Luck with your search

Chris

I just bought my g/f a little Martin LXM yesterday. Got it for $270us. I was kinda surprised at how nice it was for the money. Laminate top, but pretty decent tone for the size. Mic'd it through the PA last night and got it sounding pretty good. Think I'll get her a pickup next payday
