Generally speaking, look for strings with 80/20 or greater composition. Anything like phosphor bronze or silk and steel types will produce mellower tones.

I use d'addario medium acoustic strings, very good sound, i liked them alot.

Currently im using Earthwood Light's figured id give my fingers alittle rest ;P goin on 2 years of solid playing now... amazing the whole learning process... i dont think i could ever get tired of playing and learning guitar and music... my horizon's have been expanded greatly within the last 2 years =) anyways about the Earthwoods i like them very much, nice full sound, and as Walnut said they are 80/20 Composition.. being lights very easy to bend and press down on, ill probably stick with them for a couple sets.. try them out ;P you wont be dissapointed. Peace!

  D'Adddario..

I use D'Addario Bronze 80/20 on the recommendation of my good chum who is a luthier (Tom Anfield - check him out on the web - not only a great guitarist but also a whiz at making them too). I have a dreadnaught K Yairi (pics somewhere here) and they bring out the sound beaitifully...

Elixir 10's give a very bright sound. A little to bright for some I've read from others, but I like them.

Thanks for that but I find 10`s a little to thin and loose the nice sounds, I like 12`s.
Many thanks All,

Here's some info on how different strings sound. I found this at guitar.about.com. StringitUp!

The bottom line is that 80/20 refers to acoustic strings that are composed basically of 80% copper and 20% tin. Sometimes called a Bronze alloy. Then you have Phosphor Bronze, which are a little smoother sounding, which are 92/8 composition. Phosphor is added to the alloy.

Elixir PBs with nanoweb coating. Bright but not too bright. Very good sound. They're the only strings I put on my Taylor.

Another Taylor man! Very cool. I have a 714ce.

Anyway, I know Taylor puts on Elixirs from the factory because they last long and sound good. But I don't particularly care for their sound. Plus, I tend to break them. I like the sound better with Martin SP4100 phosphor bronze, but that's just my preference. I do use the Elixirs on a Washburn guitar that I have, though.
