Boss GT-8 for $250?

I've got an opportunity to pick up a used Boss GT-8 for $250. I've been having fun with cheaper multi-FX and single pedals but I'm thinking this is an opportunity to pick up a quality unit and be done with juggling the lower priced stuff. One big attraction is being able to switch on and off each type of effect individually instead of only being able to switch between banks of preset tones.

Ginny and I were at Disneys Pleasure Island last friday and I noticed the guitar player in one one song was going between a clean tone and an almost metal distortion without seeming to touch his pedal. It looked like multifx from what I could see from the dance floor. When watching a video demoing the GT-8 it had some dynamic effect setting that allowed the guy demoing to do the same thing. Soft strums can out clean and hard ones came out overdriven.

The question is... anyone got any comments? It seemed like the right price.

The price is more than right. They are averaging 350 on fleabay. You can always make your money back on resale if you don't like it.

Yeah eBay seems to represent the high price that people are willing to pay. But I've been watching for similar units and this so far seems the best deal.

I have the ME50, which is the less-sophisticated "little brother" of the GT-8. I also have a Digitech RP-80, which now resides in a box in the closet. Being able to switch the independent fx on and off is a big plus of the multi-pedal multifx boxes, I think you'd like it. $250 is a great price for the GT-8, I'd jump on it in a heartbeat.

Fly,

At $250 Jump on that!!! I just went to the BossUS.com site and listened to a demo. Too COOL!!! That Dynamic Picking is really neat. And yeh, for that price, you can't beat it. Also, if you like the sounds of the BOSS pedals, they use the same logarithms and components in the GT-8 to achieve the same tones. Good quality components.

And if you get tired of it.....well.....I think you could easily find a few interested parties her that would help you get your money out of it!

Let us know!!

Yeah, I've pretty much decided to get it. I'm still waiting back from the guy. I offered $250 but kept the offer open to let him see if he could get more. He emailed me today after a few days waiting saying he would call me soon. So although it's not a done deal it looks like it might be soon.

The dynamic effect on the Boss is something special, I was looking at a demo on youtube and was blown away by what that beast can do.
I have been thinking of buying the Boss ME50.
Superb build so i'm told.

Just talked to the fellow. He's delivering it to my office tomorrow for an extra $10. So $260 is the final deal. I'm stoked!

"Like a tank" comes to mind. The ME50 is very sturdy.

The deal is done! As soon as I figure out how to work it, I'll post a clip or three.

Nice one fly. A couple of members (scotty_b and nocat I think) have had some detailed discussions here about GT-8s and how to get the best out of them. Might be worth doing a search for info.

Here's one for example. I think there's a few others too.

I've got it at work and just started fiddling with it a bit. Just monkeying with some default presets and it's sounds better than any of the pedals I got or used so far. I may keep it here to use at lunch until this weekend. Man is this thing complicated.

Looks like you got a real bargain Fly.
Don't worry, I'm sure you'll work it all out soon and you'll be rockin'!

No clips yet. All I've been doing is trying out preset tones. There's hundreds of them. I'm completely amazed as everyone I've tried so far sounds great. I'm not even sure if I'll even need to tweak any for the time being.
