Re-stringing problem...

Here's the short course story:

While tuning my top E it snapped, I have removed my E and have located a spare... how do I re-string?

If it makes any difference i own a falcon and the string is a bronze wound one...

Look at the bottom half of this page.
http://www.guitarforbeginners.com/restring.html
I would make sure that your other strings are in tune first, using the on line tuner here. Tune the high E string using the second string 5th fret and cross check it with the tuner. I assume your talking about a Falcon acoustic.

Remember when in doubt, tune the string down and start again.

I had a similar problem. I tried to restring my electric, and the 6th string broke after I put on too much pressure. Then I bent my 5th string too much... but the rest went alright I suppose. My only other problem was the 4th-1st strings only went around the peg about once or twice before they got to the right frequency. I'm a slow learner I guess.

I haven't tried restringing my acoustic.

I'm going to head to the shop sometime real soon, and get some new strings and try again.

I've changed a single string before but never all of them. I bought a pack and I keep putting it off because I'm afraid I'll really screw it up!!! I always thought if something works and it sounds good ;you shouldn't try to fix it if it ain't broke I keep reading here that you should change them about every 3 or 4 months. Is that regardless of how it sounds? [/b]

It's a rule of thumb. Some people have really mild body chemistry that is easy on strings, most don't. Odds are that as your strings have gotten duller sounding, your ear has gotten used to them. Don't be afraid to change your strings. We are here to help talk you through it. Just change one at a time. It is easier to check your tuning that way.

well, if you don't change them, they sound duller. You might not notice, (I didn't until I managed to change the 1st to 4th string) but it will sound worse. This is because of the oils on your fingers, I've heard. Also, I think you might get tuning problems if you don't change strings enough.

I put it off as well. When I finally did do it, I did screw up. Still, nothing too big. It'll cost me 6 bucks, but it was worth the learning experience.

If you have some really nice guitar shop people, they might show you how. The guys where I bought my guitar showed me how, great bunch of people.

EDIT:

oops. I didn't change em one at a time. As it turns out, that was a bad idea, my nut fell off after I took off the first string. Good advice.

Apart from the resources on this site, a quick Google, eg (Guitar strings +changing) will return a lot of info. This guy seems to know what he's doing. It's just a quick pick from many and deals with acoustic guitars. Take your time and you'll have fun doing it. Good luck.
