Suggest bass amp

I was originally looking at the Ibanez sw35 for my acoustic because of the price, but have also lookied at the sw65 for $75 more (plus it has a 12" speaker instead of a 10"). My acoustic has a really bright sound to it and i was hopeing a bass amp would give it a bit deeper tone over the peavey transtube 110 (40watt) i'm using now. This is just for personal use and i don't see gigs in my future (may change but who knows). I don't know squat about amps let alone bass amps, but i do want a slightly deeper tone. Is the SW65 worth trying or is there something that might work a little better in the $200 to $250 range? Actually buying a bass guitar in the future isn't out of the question either. Want something decent, but don't need highend. Thanks

Maybe you should opt for a keyboard combo amp and an EQ pedal like the Danelectro Fish and Chips. Or maybe just get the EQ pedal and see if your current amp works. I believe acoustic amps have a flatter frequency response than electric guitar amps.

A keyboard amp will have a nicer sound on different instruments, where the bass amp will have a poorer top end.

You want to boost the bottom of your acoustic, not neglect the top end.

If I had to make a recommendation on the information just made available, I would suggest something like http://www.musiciansfriend.com/produ...tem?sku=636502 a small "powered" PA head with a pair of versatile speakers. Your going to get a decent "Bass" sound from this "Amp", as well as a decent "acoustic" sound... and can even plug your guitars in for true stereo.

i think I'm going to have to pack up the guitar and go to guitar center and check out some of the stuff you guys are talking about. I never thought about a keyboard amp or a PA. Sounds like I have alot more possibilities then what i'm thinking about. thanks for the eye opener.

I took your advice and ordered the Phonic 620 power pod last night. Thanks for the suggestion.

Just got the PA yesterday. Very impressive! The thing is alot bigger then I thought it would be and it took some rearranging of my livng room to get it all setup. i've only messed with it a few hrs and didn't get into the effects to much, but the eq and tone balancers were just what I needed. My V-Wing kicks pretty good at the low end now (wish you were here ;pink floyd). The volume is only at 1/2 the setting of my peavey to get the same level of sound (at 2am alot of volume isn't good for neighbor relations). I'm gonna crank it up here shortly. I'll wait until this weekend to give the Icon a go on it. Thanks for the suggestion Dewy. This thing is going to rock.

Fantastic... don't forget, now you have a true tool at your disposal, .mp3 player plugged in makes it a DJ between sets, and your the indispensable guy at every party. Every band or acoustic artist needs a small PA at their disposal, and your ready to rock!

You have a place for a mic, some fun effects for halloween and its fairly upgradable.

I'm glad it worked out for you...

Hey guys

Is this a true all purpose PA/amp, if someone wanted to plug a bass into this as well, could it handle it or would it blow up?

Just curious

It will faithfully reproduce the sound of the bass. It is not a replacement for a good Bass preamp section found in quality bass amps, nor does it have specific eq frequencies for a bass guitar.

There are stand alone bass preamps, Berhinger makes a V-Amp for bass that does just that.

Its important to note, that everything it is asked to do will reduce the overall volume, and when asked to do too much, it will distort, just like other amps... but this won't be pleasant.

So, yes it would substitute for a bass amp, and certainly serve for a good practice amp for bass, acoustic, or even electric via a nice preamp. But its not really suitable to suggest something like this for a professional application.

Our Bass Player, Roger, uses the Bass V-Amp and in fact turned me on to the devices. He often runs a left out of it to the PA and the right out of the V-Amp to his bass amp for a monitor... and it sounds great.
