Wireless setup?

I'm sick and tired of being tangled up in patch cords aka amp cables and I'm thinking of switching to wireless. The first thing that came to mind was the MIDI Jet Pro that Herman Li uses. I've got some Q's about wireless setups:

1. What if a transmitter runs out of batteries in the middle of a gig/jam session?

2. I don't always wear pants with pockets so it's hard to carry the transmitter. Are they even carried in your pocket?

3. Do they screw up the signal?

4. Wireless Vs Patch cords? Pros and cons of each?

5. How much should they cost? Canadian dollar conversion if possible.

6. Are they as hard to set up as rumored to be?

7. Any good brands?

Yesterday was history, tommrow is a mystery, today is a gift. I'm moving on and starting over. There are things that have been done and past. You cannot change what's done but you can change what has not been. I will fall down and I'll pick myself back up again.

1) Bye Bye Lead guitarist
2) The ones ive seen can clip onto the belt, or on the guitar strap, below the shoulder blades
3) The better quality you go, the cleaner the signal will be
4) i think thats fairly obvious.... wireless gives you freedom to move around more.
5) they're not cheap (down here anyway)
6) The wireless gear ive played with, (predominantly wireless mics), there is nothnig compicated about setting them up.... wireless receiver - mixer ch....
7) Shure

MIDI jet pro looks sweet. But I'm looking for other systems too.

1. Some folks swear by Rechargeable batteries for wireless stuff.. Personally, I swear at them. Give me a the good old Duracell any day.
If the battery goes, you're gone.

2. Yeh, lot's of them are designed to clip onto the guitar strap. If it's your only guitar, no problems.

3. Better quality, better tones. If you can't afford to spend a few hundred, don't expect too much.

4. Ditto, wireless, less tangles. Except you still have to have cables for your pedals if that's how you're doing your effects. That can complicate things. Put you right back in a nest of wires if not done right.

5. See no.3 You usually get what you pay for.

6. Usually pretty easy to set up. BUT!!!!!! you need to be aware of any other wireless stuff. Or any stuff that is transmitting on those frequencies. Wireless mics for the lead singer? Another place nearby with a wireless device that has a farther range than yours can still interrupt your device.

If someone else in the band (or nearby) has a wireless with the exact same frequency, the stronger one, or the one NOT trying to be quiet at the time, will be the sound heard. Just think! you are NOT playing, someone is introducing a song or it's just a quiet passage of a song, and from outa NOWHERE comes some talking or guitar playing or bass playing!! From WHERE?? NOT YOU!! But on your channel!! YIKES!

So, it's important to check who is using wireless in the area and if anybody else in your band is thinking about doing it,too.

7. Shure, Audio Technica, Sennhieser. NOT NADY!!!! They were one of the originators of wireless stuff, but have not improved their product for the money paid. (Just my opinion, but others think the same)

Hope it helps.
