You probably have uncoated phosphor bronze strings. Bronze has copper in it and copper turns green when it corrodes. It's time to change the strings.

Mine only last 3 weeks, though I leave them on longer. Depends on how acidic your body is. At this point you should pick up a different brand of strings each time till you find some you really like. Any guitar store will point you to strings depending on your playing style and tone you want to go for.

Strings do have to be changed regularly. Once a month or every other month depending on how much you play and your personal body chemistry (as allthumbs mentioned).

I would recommend that you get the exact same gauge of strings as what you already have on the guitar. I would also recommend trying one brand of strings at a time, play them and then try another brand until you find a brand you like.

Personally I use D'Addario Guitar Strings - EJ17-3D, Phosphor Bronze/Medium on my Takamine EAN-15C (acoustic/electric) and D'Addario - XL115 on my Fender Strat. They work for me.
