Help me improve! :D

hey guys. Laid down a recording of myself playing along to a BT my instructor gave me a while back, just a slow blues in E. Realized how repetitive and pentatonic my playing must sound to others haha! It's pretty crappy quality as I recorded the BT playing on my Ihome while simultaneously recording myself on the same mic It's way too long for my skills, but that's how long the BT was... any suggestions are welcome, or harsh criticisms, they'll give me more reason to practice Thanks!

My reaction as I'm listening....

You got the basis of some real nice licks there, you just gotta let yourself go and run around your riffs and scale a bit more (making sure you highlight the root note of the BT on the changes).

I loved the feel of the sustained vibrato notes and slides etcetera - but I was wanting to hear some runs of notes in there as a counterpoint.
Maybe googling the 5 positions of the pentatonic scale will help show you some new ways to go with your solo.

Nice work - good feel

Your lead was pretty buried in the mix so it was a bit hard to hear what was happening. It is always good to find a tone for lead that will cut through the mix so it doesn't blend in and get lost. Sounds like you need to think your way through note selection a bit more and rely less on muscle memory.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys Yes I definitely need to work on using more of the fretboard--I've just got down a full understanding of my scales over the whole fretboard I'm just still really used to using my tried and true 1st position for E... just need more practice I guess Thanks again guys!

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
