setting a low standard
ok, figured I needed to get into the recording end of the computer after dabbling and threatening for a while now. Got the new Parker running into the V-Amp here and out of it into the line in on the Creative labs cheapy soundcard.
From there just ran it into audacity... which isn't as native to multi-tracking as I thought at first... but figured out the issue and got it recording at least.
So then, here is my stab at recording, hopefully to soon be followed up by something a little smoother... maybe even a beat I can follow next time!!!

And a little something from the "clean channel". Had some trouble here getting the volume up enough for a good strong signal, so lots of issues with these first attempts, but as the thread is titles, set the standard low, and everything that follows it is exceptional right?

Great ... I love it! If that's your low standard, look out!

Thank you both... and I know I can do better, just had to get some sorta sample out there of what the Parker (we're calling it Burl) can do. Its a completely different instrument, a step above the guitars I've owned in the past.
Nice to hit a chord and let it ring... not muting the one thats never in tune at that position... or bending a note into tune.
On the clean sample I had a couple of snafu's... should have started over... but then when I got to the solo section I just started wailing away... forgot to play the rhythm part and come back to solo over it later.
Need backing tracks or something I guess until we get the 8-track set up at the rehearsal hall.
And thanks again for taking the time to listen. I'll do better next time.

Nice sound and nice playing, Dewy. I'd be quite happy if my standards were that "low"!
Those pickups sound pretty versatile - no problem at all getting a good overdriven sound and lots of pinch harmonics, and the clean sound is nice and sweet.

Nicely done Dewy. Of course, I thought the Hendrix was smoother than the Back in Black, but all in all I thought they were both good. Thanks for sharing your journey!

There was a lot of noise from the distorted track... and an obvious lack of tempo, those I will work on and are a large part of why that was a low standard, besides the fact that I only manage to play the same solo 2 out of 23 times.
That time and most others I miss something and "compensate" by slipping off into ad lib land... it gets me through on stage ok... but in the studio I get frustrated pretty quick trying to "get it perfect".
The bluesy piece there was an excerpt from Wind Cries Mary... which we do as a three piece, and I wandered off into my guitar solo with no backing track... duh. So I had to edit. I thought about trying to track in some rhythm... but was much easier to chop it short.
Thanks for the kind words everyone... I have a busy weekend on the music rehearsal, and unfortunately have a finish trim project for the local computer store next week... maybe I can get something that better illustrates "Burl's" ability. Its one sweet sounding guitar.

Dewey! I dream of 'low standards' like that. I loved the clean, but that's just me. The playing in the first was very impressive - yes a video would be great.

There is a very Dark Dvd of my last live performance... but its not worth chopping up into vids.
I'll look into something with a web cam soon if that would help me share with folks.
