First attempts at improvising
Well, the other day I discovered something great. I can use Garage Band to make a backing track and then play some lead over it. So I threw together a backing track I made up earlier in the day, figured out it's key, found that key's major scale and just played along to it.
Any tips or hints? Sounds like crap, I know, but it amazes me that it actually works with the backing track, haha.

You need to bring up the BT so we can hear how well you are following the progression.

Not bad at all, alawiggle. Had some moments of brilliance in there. Couple cringe-inducing notes in there, too. But all in all not bad. Keep it up.

Well done, some nice slides (glissandos - or something, not sure what they are called when you slide into a note) in there. Keep it up.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
