Critique please
Been playing about a year and a half...the only lessons I've had are basically on this site and the PT site. I ran this through a little practice amp for some effects. I kinda like these old gospel songs to have a little "harp"-like effect. Maybe I over did it.....don't know. I use a pick and just try to fill in between the melody notes with a little underlying chord tones,(Thanks Kirk),.... possibly too much going on with this simple song. I don't play in front of anyone else, so I'm looking for some opinions as to what I should do.
thanks in advance,
hb

hb,
That sounded good to me, the harp sound gave it a very reverent quality. I thought that the playing was very good, there was a little hiss in the recording but that was probably due to you setup.
Nice go, keep it up.

Pretty good. Maybe a bit rushed. Try adding some vibrato and holding some of the melody notes to make them stand out more.

Thanks, I don't record hardly at all, but it's amazing the things you hear yourself do that you're unaware of when just playing. I'll study up on the vibrato.....never really tried it much. Yes, the song seems to all flow together, not highlighting the melody enough.
thanks,
hb

Sounded good to me as well hb , I agree with Knight on the playing, very good, (Entertainer of the year ?), I'm not experienced enough to comment on the melody but the song like you said did flow well, nice job hb.

It sounds good, as for critique I have a comment that might just be stylistic meaning preference. I think the 1's weren't strong enough. I got the impression you wanted to have a sort've following sound rather than AM-zing GR-ace, sort've thing. But as for my opinion I would try out making the 1's a little strong but still maintain the nice flowing feel you have.
If you learn how to play songs, then you learn songs. If you learn how to improvise, then you learn music.

Thanks for that suggestion! I agree with you. I'll try to get that 1 going a little.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
