Need critique
I recorded this using a LP with P90's > Roland Micro Cube into a Line 6 TonePort > Audacity. I got the backing track (renman's winter E) from the internet
I like the tone, but would like some recording ideas as to how to make it sound better. I've been recording for less than a month and playing guitar for about 6 months, so any help would be greatly appreciated as well as much needed.
Also, any help with my structure, expression, etc., would be appreciated, too.

Wish I'd been that good after 6 months!!!!
I thought the recording was really clear and the mix nicely balanced, maybe you could experiment with some effects like reverb etc.. not that your tune needs it but it can make a surprising difference.
Afraid I can't offer more than that, I got the impression that you're on the right track with everything!
Nice tune too

I agree with Jomi, very nice for 6 months. Nice tune, well balanced and clear recording. If I could make one suggestion:
I know when we first start we want to get as many notes into the mix as possible. I think that your expression is good and the structure is good, I think that sometimes you are trying to get in to much and that it throws of your rhythm a little. The silence in between the notes is as important as the notes is a popular quote.
But really nice overall.

This is not a critic, consieder this like advice.
Ok, your mix is good, but lead guitar needs some efects. To me guitar sounds like you plug directly in your soundcard and hit the play button.
Try some plugins. The best free plugins on the net is guitar suite, you can use them. SimulAnalog Guitar Suite
Also I wonder why you don't use those program whis came with tone port. It has a quite good plugs to color your guitar.
Audacity is good but why don't try some of better programs, they come with a buch of plugins like delay, reverb, compressor, limiter which can improve your sound in many ways.
Kristal for intance, it is free or just type free editor in search bar and you can find many of them on internet.
Your playing is good... for 6month player this is veeeery good. Just take your time and practice. Practice is mother of perfecy.
Hope you understand my little poor english.
We can't lost, 'cause we don't know where we're oing
but anyway, we are all going in the same irection.

Sorry, I disagree. The guitar tone was excellent.
I do recommend Kristal, however, and playing around with effects can't hurt.
I can't give critique, I'm not sure I could do what you did with that recording.
Great playing.

The mix is fine. The fx on the guitar is a might too thick for my taste.

Thanks for your comments and suggestions. The Micro Cube is a new toy, so I was trying it out instead of using the Gearbox software (which is very good). The Ableton software that was included with the TonePort didn't seem very easy to use, so I'm using Audacity until I get a little better handle on recording. So far, all I've done is import a mp3 backing track and hit 'record'.
I think my single note picking is coming along ok because I practice a LOT. But my chords...well, the sad truth is that I know only the 7 open major chords and I'm not smooth at changing from one to the other yet.
Thanks again!!

I was nowhere near that standard after 6 months. Come to think of it, I'm still not after 4 years ... Well done, indeed!

I personally liked the sound. It has a culturally black delta blues sound that is very reminicent of great bluesman like Muddy Waters. Almost a resonator sound. You are amazing. You have awesome potential if you can play like that after 6 months. Sometimes no effects gets the effect you need for the pure original blues sound.

Thanks you guys, I'm really happy to hear the nice comments.
I bought an acoustic guitar right after Christmas this year but didn't play it much because it hurt my fingers. After getting an electric guitar in February, I've practiced every minute that I can. I started with a Wolfe Marshall beginners book and learned a few power chords and single note picking and kind of went from there. I've learned the pentatonic scales in A, E, and D and where to find them on different parts of the fretboard, and mostly play by feel.

Wow!!! I think you sound great! 6 MONTHS???????? Awesome!
I'm just the opposite, I play chords (rhythm) well but am not doing so well with picking single notes (lead) guess I have to practice more. And I've been playing about 15 months.

Thanks Aunt Doty!
Well, then. You play rhythm well and I play lead a little. Lay me down a 12 bar shuffle in E and let's take it on home, lol.
