I just wanted to comment on the simple version of Over the Rainbow and the way you did it. The only lesson I ever took was from a great player that only used a pick. Therefore, I broke my fingers in on this method and it's hard to put the pick down. I usually strum some or all of the underlying chord and highlight the melody notes on a song, thus I have to sometimes work hard when looking at your lessons as to what notes are fill-ins and which one are melody notes, especially if I don't have that song burned into the back of my brain somewhere. The way you wrote this piece, i.e., basic melody notes with the chord of reference being at the top of the scale hit my style perfectly. I realize that your site is directed at finger-picking and I hope to take it up someday and there is not a guitar site on the web that, in my opinion, even comes close, so keep up the good work and don't be hesitant to write more songs arranged like this. Can anyone tell me if my style (for lack of a better word) is somewhat of an unortodox way of playing? I ask this as I don't see much stuff on the web directed to this style.

Yes, I guess your style (from what I can gather) is a bit unorthodox, but that's a good thing, I reckon. If you're happy with how you're going, stick at it and you'll have your own sound. I'm sure you've heard chammon's great tracks ... he's got his own way of playing too and it's beautiful, totally unique. There never was any 'right way' or 'wrong way' to play a musical instrument to my mind ... so long as the music coming out is sweet on the ear, who cares about the technique used to get there?

I'm glad you're enjoying the 'stripped-back' lessons I'm doing now, and it's good to see that you're taking advantage of the chord symbols I insert too. I will be doing more of them, so stick around!

chammon is one of our members! Do a quick search for him and have a listen to his unique style ... sounds to me like it might be close to yours, only he uses his fingers.
