  moondance - plane talk

Hi Kirk,

Thanks for this arrangement of the song, sounds great. In the lesson you say you tried a few different feels for it. Doesn't that take a lot of time to find that out?

Another thing i want to ask you about is the DVD / book 'plane talk" when reading about the book,a lot of things sound formiliar to me, "i know some chords , i'm able to play some melody lines either strumming or fingerpicking it.
But when trying to write or improvise songs myself (like in your weekly lesson) i hid a wall, i don't understand the working of the fretboard. I can only fingerpick the chords ( open position or barre) in a certain pattern and that sounds boring repeating it verse after verse. Does ' plane talk' give some help in this one.

Hi hli ... no, trying out different feels is not time consuming. Once the mechanical side of playing is under control, then switching and experimenting is easy and natural.

PlaneTalk describes a very simple way of 'seeing' the fretboard as a whole, so that you can access the music, whether chords, double stops, harmony lines, melody ... it comes in especially handy if you want to improvise. It teaches a way of thinking about music and the guitar. You must, of course, practice a whole lot too.

I can pretty much guarantee it will be the best lesson you've ever learned.

  Moondance: Chorus (bridge)?

Kirk,

Jsut recently went back and found this one. it's cool! But have a question....is the chorus section (lyrics: Can I just have one more moondance with you....) the same as the verse? I've tried it, and it seems to work, but there's something not quite right about it. I can hear something is just slightly off.

I've tried the same chords up & down the neck and a few little changes (which didn't work at all!) and was wondering if there was just one more chord change for that section.

Thanks !

Andy S.

I think you're right, Andy ... there's a bit of a variation in one of those sections as I recall. To tell you the truth, I haven't really heard the tune in a long time and believe it or not, never played in a lineup that had that tune in the repertoire. It went through a fairly long period of being one of the most hated songs to play ... I guess because it was so popular. But I think you're right ...

I'm also the author of PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book. The lesson that this book, slide-rule and DVD teach is the most powerful of all: the 'trick' to seeing the entire fretboard as friendly, familiar territory. If you're beyond the beginner stage -- you know your chords, scales, maybe even modes -- but you're still wondering how to turn it all into music, how to invent and improvise, how to access all the bits and pieces, then this is the book for you. You will also be able to join the private PlaneTalkers' Forum and discuss the simple visualization technique with me and many others. - Read more here .

Testimonials

Hi Kirk Plane Talk arrived safely last week I'd just like to add my praise to all the others! I don't think I have ever had anything explained so clearly, simply and yet thoroughly in all my life ... The fretboard always seemed a complete maze I could never understand how anyone could see a pattern, now I can see it myself after just a few days ... just wanted to thank you personally and to let you know I will be recommending it to all my musical friends.
