  Rainy Day Waltz question.

I've been trying to play Rainy Day Waltz and it's on it's way but....when I finally read the text, you say

"I have written D7 for all those D chords. The b7 isn't played in all of them, but any D in the key of G can be considered a 7th. That's the nature of the V chord. If you were to go looking for any extra notes over a D chord in G, or to add to a melody, you would choose the b7, not the 7."

I see from the tabs that you have changed the D chords to read 'D' and not D7, but I still can't make sense of this bit of text. I'm not sure what b7 you mean. The flat 7 of a D chord would be a C, instead of C# which is what happens in the 19th bar. All the other C's are as part of a CMajor chord.

I understand the B7 (A not A#) and the A7 (G not G#) so I don't think you're referring to them.

It's got me stumped too, Carol ... and I wrote it!

I think what I meant was that in the key of G, any D that comes up can be seen as a D (potential) 7th, that if you were to strum along to this, a D7 would be OK in each case.

It's true, you can play it, and really well too. I'm trying to polish it up at the moment - I'm having real trouble getting smoothly to the Cadd9 in bars 3 and 7.

I did work out that if, in bar 11 you use your ring finger on string 3 and your middle finger on string 2, you can anchor your ring finger down and swing the others over to play the B7.

And, if you use your middle finger to play the F# (fret 4 on 4th string) bar 13 and 17, you can keep it down you can use it as an anchor/guide to slide smoothly up to the C chord which follows.

Thx for the compliment I play that part exactly as does Kirk in the video. It felt awkward for a while but after some practice the fingers went how I wanted them to.
