You can also stretch each string by hand. With the guitar across your knees, grip a string with both hands (with fingers against thumb) and then stretch the string between the fingers and thumb of each hand (pushing forward with thumbs and back with fingers). Then work your way along the string from bridge to nut. Retune, re-stretch, retune etc a few times. This makes them settle in quicker. Also if one string is a bit sharp you can give it a quick tweak to stretch it into tune without loosening the string at the peg.
