Best online lessons?
Hi, I used to play guitar about 10 years ago and I was OK, but not great by any means. I haven't played for the last 10 years and I want to start again and I suck now of course. But this time I want to learn more theory and more of the "right way" to play guitar to get even better. I don't feel like dishing out $60 a month for guitar lessons so I would like to find a website that is really good at teaching guitar lessons (more theory than just tab) or a software package. Does anyone have any real good suggestions?

Take a look at Kirks' Plane Talk book. It is the simplest way I know of to increase your theory and playing skills fast. I don't know of any top to bottom teaching sites that cover everything. You might just have to glean the best out of what you can find out there.I think some of the members here can point you at a few. Here are some reviews of Kirks book. It includes a forum membership for asking music related questions so that's one way to go. http://www.thatllteachyou.com/home.html

Don't forget that there are many lesson right here, for free, that will teach you a whole lot about theory (not theory, fact) in a plain English way ... well over 70 of them.

Try eyeguitar.com with James Devon teaching. They just came online; I worked with James a couple of years ago, and he is a great teacher. He has rock. classical, rhythm, etc. and very affordable.

I was living around the corner from James in White Rock, British Columbia, last year, PD. He came around to visit a couple of times and he played a beautiful classical piece on my steel string Gibson; sounded great. Very nice man, too.
The lessons here are the best, of course.

I agree this is the best site and I am a pretty good Googler. This site has great lessons and a vibrant forum.
Here's another; not quite as developed, but a different type of music with more blues focus.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
