electric guitar wood types
I'm in the beginning stages of research for buying an electric guitar and was wondering if some one could tell me a litttle about types of wood for the body. I was first told "basswood" and "select hard wood" we're cheap and "mahogony" was the best. Then I read in an ad that basswood was in between "alder" and mahogony in tone and weight. It seems like most Fenders are made of alder so that's probably not a cheap wood, and what about "ash" and "poplar"? Could some one tell me about the quality, tone, and weight of these woods?
