should I sell my first guitar
I'm stuck....I "won" a guitar.
I've decided that I will learn to play an electric guitar, but I'm wondering if I should sell this guitar which I've heard is "junk"...
I can't post links yet so let me try this...

An intriguing aspcet is an "intigrated amp" (runs off a 9 volt battery, "V-Stack") that allows me to pretty much plug it in anywhere.
I'm really in no position to judge. It sounds OK maybe even pretty good to my untrained ear..however, it is selling for about $300 on ebay
Shoud I dump it? and get a "real guitar" or keep practicing?

If it plays good and sounds good to you, keep it for a while and practice away on it. Don't worry about what guitars other people are playing or what brand names are on their equipment. Too often, the hobby of playing guitar becomes more like a fashion show. There's nothing wrong with having good equipment - even GREAT equipment....but neither is there anything wrong with being a beginner who can't afford that kind of stuff - or eventually, being the cat who can really wail on some cheap little beater axe, either!
On the other hand, if you've just GOTTA have a better guitar and amp, then put it on flea-bay and get out your wallet! Just remember that there's nothing wrong with having/loving a cheap guitar if you enjoy playing it and like the music that comes out of it. A "real" guitar is one that has strings and makes good music - nothing more, nothing less. A good guitarist on a cheap guitar and amp will sound better than a wanker on a top-of-the-line pro rig every time.

If they are going for 300 buck used on Ebay, play it for a year while your saving for a better one and then sell it on Ebay and get a higher quality guitar.

Just so you guys know... First Act doesn't only make beginner guitars. They also make top flight guitars. They make some that will run you $3,000. I doubt that this guitar is truly a beginner's guitar seeing as you have to spend $15k+ to get it. I'm betting it's at least a $7-800 guitar.
Edit: Haha, I will shut my mouth on this now though. Harmony central has 2 reviews for it... average overall rating of 3.0. lmao

thanks for all the pointers...you guys are helping...but I guess I wasn't clear in what I'm trying to figure out here...I think it is probably more valueable as a "collectors item" on ebay (for VW fanatics who don't have one) than it is as a musician's guitar.
Can I get a decent electric guitar/amp for the $300 I would get selling this? or would I need to double my budget to $600?
is an "integrated (virtual/v-stack) amp" common or worth a lick?

Unless you really like it, it's probably best to sell it off. If you're serious about learning guitar there is much better equip out there. The Squier/Line 6 combo suggested would do nicely.
BTW, I'd like to see this $3,000 First Act you're talking about. Please link.

Your not going to get 300 for it on Ebay. There are already 1/2 doz selling for 250 or less.

Mr. Allthumbs with all due respect, I know you are a guitar guru around here but ebay is an auction. "Going for" does not mean went for, unless you see a BIN (Buy It Now) price?
In the past 24 hours the items below have closed...forgive me I still cannot post links so you will need to look these item numbers up if you care..

I started playing a month ago with an Ibanez GSA60 and a Line 6 Spider III amp.
I'm no pro but it sounds great to me and is in your price range ($300 without taxes)
PS. The guitar is $25 cheaper if you buy it in the store. I posted links but wasn't allowed to do so yet by the forum.

Regardless of ebay-ness, before you ditch the guitar you "just won", give it a chance. Play it a couple of months and then make a decision. There's no rush right? I mean you've got what, a four or five year car payment plan? In fact, even though you had to buy a car to get a guitar, the best kind of guitar out there is a free guitar!
And don't forget, one persons junk is another's treasure.

I'm hardly a guitar guru. Your saying those auctions closed fore more than 300? I went back and looked at about 20 of them. The prices are all over the place. Some of them are under 100 bucks with 2 1/5 days to go. That will be some serious bidding to get it up to 300. Some of them do seem to be in bidding wars. There doesn't seem to be much logic in which ones are more desirable than others. I'm guessing their selling to collectors speculating or players who haven't read the reviews. Your in a catch 22 . Hold it and gamble that there is a collectors market for them and the price will go up or sell it before there are enough poor reviews to pull the price down. I'd sell it if I could get a decent price for it and get an Agile, Squire51 or Raven instead. They are known to take upgrades very well.

Thanks lcjones, you won't believe this but....
not only did I get a free guitar
but, I was in Vegas and won a free car
I've always had dreams of being a rock star
I guess if my axe playing falls through maybe I can write lyrics? or kindergarten rhymes...
The VW is a New Beetle two year lease the guitar just "showed up" one day via UPS....a few weeks after I drove the Beetle back from Vegas to Michigan. My wife "WT is that"....
I have been debating the "learn to play!!"
versus "you're too old sell it on eBay"
and driving a Beetle people think I'm gay
The hardest part of winning the car was driving from Vegas to Michigan in the first snowstorm of the season in the rockies, too cheap to pay $925 to ship the car. The entire drive realizing I'd probably need to sell my BMW 325i as it's 4 year old and still holds a lot of value, not to mention the car payments.
