If you are buying a guitar to learn on, but a cheap beginners guitar. Nothin like sinkin' over $500+ into something to find out you don't have the patience to learn it.

Hi and welcome Himel,

You may want to read a few of Ultimate Garage Band's posts that are "pinned" at the top of this forum:

"I want to learn electric guitar, which one to get?"

"Electric guitars"

"OK, I know what I want, now what?"

-and-

"Money vs. Value"

These threads all have excellent information for you to consider.

A "the stratocaster" is a good place to start!

Well, one thing I will say, from experience- unless you are dropping some pretty good cash, if you insist on something with a whammy bar you will definitely learn how to tune your guitar. I (and a bunch of other folks) have removed the whammy bar and blocked the tremolo so we don't have to keep retuning after every song.

That being said, there are plenty of good beginner guitars that are out there. Do yourself a favor right off the bat- when you buy yours find yourself someone that is good at doing a setup- and ask that you watch and learn. it is important that you understand how a guitar is put together so that you can make adjustments down the road. It will save you money, increase the ease of playing, and generally make the playing of guitar that much more satisfying for you.

Another one worth looking at is the Squier '51 - currently on sale at MF and GC for $99 with free shipping. I somehow caught a thread on it somewhere, did a lot of reading and found that it was almost universally praised for the "bang for the buck" factor, tone and playability (aside from minor setup issues which you'll find with any lower/middle-end guitar). GAS got the best of me and I just ordered one.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
