Ebay
What is everyone's experience with buying guitars on Ebay? Is it recommended?
The reason I ask is a lot of the cheaper auctions provide hardly any info, like this one: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Good-Beginners-Electric-Guitar-and-Amp-Pack_W0QQitemZ160049412859QQihZ006QQcategoryZ2384Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I can't tell there what the guitar or amp is, but it's so cheap. Would it be advised?
What are your opinions or experiences with Ebay?

Hey
Buy from a physical shop with an Ebay store. Then you will get a warranty, an instrument that at least has some degree of quality control, and the possibility of after-sales service and repairs.
Here is one shop I can thoroughly recommend http://stores.ebay.com.au/Engadine-M...3aFQ3aSTQQtZkm

I've considered Ebay before, but there's nothing like playing what you want before you buy! Even new right out of the box there can be problems with guitars...acoustic and electric. Besides the fact that there are fakes everywhere on Ebay.Look in the Fender section-do a search for Fender Stratocaster...it even comes up with stuff to fake one if you want. I think I want what I'm paying for even if it is a good fake.
As far as the auction you posted tho, I'd be asking the seller a lot of questions and for more photos as well.

True Dawn - that is why a physical shop can be OK as they might offer a return policy. Most of the auction warehouses etc won't.

Thanks for the replies! I'm just surfing around ebay and I came across this
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/SQUIRE-STRAT-BY-FENDER-VGC-IN-SOFT-CASE_W0QQitemZ300045762150QQihZ020QQcategoryZ33039 QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
That guy lives near me, so I may be able to have a look. What do you guys think? No return policy of course...
I think I might be getting ahead of myself I'll probably just wait a while first before getting an electric, but I don't want to miss a good deal.
Thanks guys, sorry for all the questions, I'm getting a little specific here aren't I

Looks nice, but I don't know what the AUD converts to in USD. In USD you can get a New Squire for under $200. My son has one..its fun!
I'd give the seller a call since they've posted their number..especially since there are only 2 feedbacks....maybe they'll let you try it out first!

yeah this one looks OK
The Australian dollar is around 74cents to the USD I thin Dawn, and then we have all sorts of tarrifs - the equivalent guitar is around $330 here.

If you go to play that squire, check the neck. The quality of squires is all over the place. The fret ends can stick out over the edge of the neck and make playing in comfort very difficult.

BTW. A red flag should go up anytime you see a pic of the a guitar with the headstock not shown and no mention of the brand. You can't research a guitar if you don't know the name which tends to be the point of doing that.

I had to return one because of this and the shop owner admited he had a few returns because of this, but the replacement is great! I checked this one out really well before accepting it.
My son loves it...a great beginners strat..if he sticks with it wqe'll get him something nicer
LoL here's a photo of him on his birthday...future rock-star that he is...ahem..yes it was unplugged the little poser!! (try not to look at the mess...sigh..kids! )

That is so true. The Fender name associated with them means nothing. Epiphones are the same now - very hit and miss since they started coming out of China

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule
Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
