How long Did You stay with your first guitar?

Just curious to all the players out there--

How long did you play that first guitar you bought, before you upgraded??

(I was gonna make this a poll, but I haven't had enough coffee yet, so I'd probably bungle it!)

depends on the quality of your first guitar and how it suites your needs. I still have my first guitar which i received in 1965. It was a good classical guitar and it was my only guitar for 6 years. i literally wore a grove in the back of the neck and divits in the fretboard.

I still play my first acoustic guitar, simply 'cause I don't have neither the money nor interest to invest in a new one, though I start to get bored with the low QL sound of it, so I guess sooner or later I'll buy a new one...

My first electric only stayed with me for a few months, then I made a huge upgrade to a Jackson SLSMG Soloist.
At least I'm satisfied.

Acoustic- started with a Samick, which is currently down in Mississippi with my brother-in-law, who is learning. I stayed with that one for about 8 years before getting my Larrivee.

Electric- still with my Squier strat copy with some recent upgrades.

My 1st was a Martin something? Can't remember, anyways I kept it for about a year, sold it went back to playing drums. Then I bought my baby, an Oscar Schmit, not sure that it has a model. Paid (I just typed payed before correcting, this must be the end) $160 for guitar and case then got a Fishman pup out of my uncle's garbage after he was done with a Washburn. I love it, will never sell it, not even for $1,000,000. So I actually sold my 1st after about a year then downgraded in quality but I'm much happier.

I bought a Les Paul copy in the late 70's, never learned to play it well. Sold it to a guy I worked with. Then again in the mid 80's I bought a G&L S-500 strat in a pawn shop cheap. Never really learned to play it either until I finally got over the startup hump this year. It's one of my favorite guitars now. Beats out the MIM strat that I recently picked up off Craigslist.

I only bought a very cheap €150 Stagg and after 6 weeks when I knew that I had the bug I bought a semi decent Fender. I still have her and she is now tuned to open E or I take her on camping trips.

Still have my first. I bought it to make sure I would keep playing and if a year later I was, I would upgrade, which I did. I still play the original (Rogue) when it's a quicky or I've had a few drinks. Don't like to risk any damage to the Breedlove AD20/SM.

One year. I sold it to help my sister through college. Had my next one for 3 years. Handed it off to someone who did a Pete Townsend smash the guitar move with it a week later. Bummer. I haven't given a guitar away since.

My first electric, way back in '68 or '69 was a Greco, semi hollow body. Yellow to black berst finish. Played pretty smooth as I remember. Fed back really easy, too. So I could ROCK!!
Drove the neighbors nuts!!

Had that for probably a year. Then I traded it in for my first Strat.
When I went in to buy the strat, I put a deposit on it and the sales guy put a 3x5 index card with SOLD in great big letters written on it in between the strings. My name was also written on it , but real small. Before I walked out, I stopped and asked him if he could rewrite the card. He did....

Sold to
Andy SORENTINO

After that weekend, all my buddies at school came up to me talking about MY new Strat. Pretty cool for a high schooler at the time!

Kept that for a while then traded that in for my Les Paul Deluxe. The sold that & quit playing for 10 years. The rest, as they say, is history!

My first guitar was a classical guitar that played for about a year. Then I got my Fender Tex-Mex Stratocaster + Fender Pro Jr amp. About another year or so later I traded in the classical and got a Yamaha 4a acoustic/electric.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
