Mexican Fenders are on a par with the low end American models as far as quality goes. I've had a Fat Strat for a year now and love it.

Nothin' at all wrong with a Standard MIM Tele. It will last you well beyond the beginner stage.

Just like any other guitar, there are good and bad examples (occasional quality control fluctuations), so it's best if you can actually play them before you buy - but as long as you get one that doesn't suffer from any QC issues, they're good, solid, reasonably-priced guitars.

Sure, why not. They are great guitars.

Do you have anyone to help you pick out a guitar? And amp? Is money an issue? If you are concerned about spending too much and making a mistake, you can always watch your local Craigslist. You can pick up a Squier strat and practice amp for around $100 - $125. After you've had a few lessons and get a better idea of what you want, you can spend your money more wisely and then sell your Squier for what you got in it.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!

Buy it now for only $10
