Getting an acoustic
After a while of contemplating I've decided I really want to get a guitar, and put in work to learn it and to learn to play the songs I write on an acoustic(which works out good because my summer is coming up so this will be almost all of what I'm doing for 2 months). I'm not exactly sure which acoustic I want though.
I was thinking between a:
Taylor Baby Taylor Dreadnought Acoustic Guitar
or a Seagull s6
I'm looking to play rock/alternative type stuff, and I'm 15 and a little small(not that small though) so I'm wondering if this will have much of an effect on which guitar I get.
If any one has a suggestion for a guitar that might be better for me to look at, I'd greatly appreciate it. I've heard and looked around online and heard these were good though so I checked them out.
Thanks!

There's a lot of good guitars out there and those two are definitely nice. I played the Baby Taylor today at guitar center while I was waiting for them to straighten out some clerical difficulties with my new amp.
What kind of price range are you looking in? Makes recomendations a lot easier. Bottom line though is you have to like it, so try out as many as you can, see what feels right, sounds good--have a salesman play it so you can listen. I'm finding there are a lot of good guitars out there the more I play, and in a very wide range of budgets.

My price range is more or less 600$
I'll hopefully be going down there with a friend soon who plays to try out, but I'm liking the thought of the baby Taylor since it's smaller.

accessories? I dont know exactly what you'll need, but right now just for my acoustic, I have a stand, case, and cleaning/polishing stuff. I also bought some different kinds of picks, and such. Easy things to overlook in the excitement of buying your first guitar. A tuner might be a good idea as well.

The baby Taylor is a nice guitar, I have one. Personally I would go with the Seaqul because it is a full size guitar. Also check out Crafter
guitars. They may have a store that carries them in your location.
experiments63 just got a new guitar and maybe he can let you know about his experience. Write him a PM on the subject.
Here is the Crafter Line and they are also found on ebay
Crafter Guitars - Play your dream, Play a Crafter!
Here is an example on ebay. Also checkout some of the others. These guys are making a great guitar.
Crafter GAE 15N cut-away auditorium guitar - eBay (item 110253473434 end time Jul-15-08 07:47:41 PDT)
You may want to check the on line store section here on the site too.
Hope it helps.

Here is a short sound bite on the Crafter with cedar top, rosewood back and sides. I cut it too short in the end to let it fade out.
Excuse any background noise, I am working here!

The clip was great!
I think I'm going to go with the s6, but I'm also going to look into the crafter now.

I've taken a look at picks, but how exactly am I suppose to know what kind to get? Does it depend on the guitar I'm playing? Theres so many different kinds of picks it seems.

Picks in general are pretty cheap. Most stores are around 50 cents for one. Personally, I like Fender Celluloid Mediums, but I also use one I got called a Jim Dunlop 1mm(its nylon). I dont know much about picks so that's just what I've found works for me. Last time I bought half a dozen different ones from Extra Heavy all the way down to thin. See if wherever you go sells them individually and get some different kinds, brands, sizes, etc... see what suits you best. The Fender Celluloids I know for sure come in packs of 12. Once you know what kinds you feel comfortable with and sound best for you, then you can pick up a dozen. Do yourself a favor though, and get several...out of that dozen I bought a month ago, I have about half of them left...where the rest go I have no idea

Me again, still banging on my head against the wall picking out a guitars. I came across this recently and was wondering if anyone has used it before, a Dean V-Coustic Thin Body Acoustic Electric Guitar Natural.
First thing I noticed how cheap it was, and I'm really not to picky about prices but if theres something better thats cheaper I'd of course like to go with that. I am interested in doing electric one day, but first I'd like to learn acoustic. I was wondering how it sounded, and is it a good starter guitar for a teen?
Thanks!

When I first saw the Dean V-coustic, I thought it was pretty original at first. But I just remembered how hard V's were to play sitting. Even the Jacksons and the Gibsons were abit of trouble to play sitting. I think it would be an ok starter guitar as long as you'll be playing standing up most of the time and you don't mind the odd looks from the old ladies!

I really do love the look of the guitar, especially in black
The guitar is cheap enough to, so I'm seeing no reason to not try it out.

But are you going to be playing standing most of the time? If you wanna be able to play sitting and standing conviniently, get a more traditional shape then.
Edit: YouTube - Iron Maiden - Medley w/ my Jackson King V Guitar That may give you an idea of how to play sitting down. But its pretty awkward. And make sure you're not wearing a skirt! I had to learn the hard way! (ignore the dog in the background)

Wow 1st of all awesome playing man.
second..cool dog
I really don't know which way I'd play more, I guess I didn't think about it much. I'd like to think I'd be playing standing up more, and like I said I just love the V shape, I think it looks sick especially in black.
