What's it like to play baritone guitar?

So I seen this article about baritone guitars and they seem really cool, but what do they sound like? Does any one have one? I cant find one to play in any music store around here (small town). How about slide on one? I got to get one of these! They got to growl like a bear right? Man I need one !! What the hell is wrong with me?

Yeah, I did some research and am convinced that baritone is the way to go especially for slide, I think one of the manufacturers should give one to Kirk so he can give clinics and get an endorsement deal. But I'm getting one cause I know that this is the answer to everything. ( Just like the closets full of equipment that preceeded it.)

Basically, listen to Korn and you know what I mean. They do alot of baritone stuff.

Don't I just love the sound of a baritone DISTORTED...

Easyslider - if you listen to country music, give a listen to some of Dwight Yoakam's stuff. Pete Anderson played baritone on some of his songs. "Honky Tonk Man" comes to mind right away. Very cool sound!

I did not know that. I love Pete Anderson"s work. I just figure it had to be a tele, maybe tuned down. Great, now I have no choice but to get in the truck, drive 2 hours and play one. It gets me wondering how the average tube amp ( or any other) can handle the lower freqs. the speaker must start floppin in the wind. O.K. well its time to cook the books, must have new toy.

I haven't played one but I like the sound. Listen to Staind's'
"It's Been Awhile" and "Outside"....excellent sounding baratone guitar! My grandson wants to buy one! They really have a low growling sound! U can't do that with a standard 6 string.

Yes, think about Korn type playing. They use distorted baritone alot.

But heavy sounds can also be gotten from a 7string right?

I heard a Danelctro the other day, has a longer neck than an electric and it really has that bass thing going on it does sort of growl at you, think you'll get some mean slide from it Easyslider

Just buy really thick strings and you can turn any guitar into a basic baritone guitar. 13s should get you to baritone tuning fairly well.

It won't play quite as smoothly, but it will work just the same.

You may be right X63 but that seemingly simple solution will not satisfy this sick, obsessive cowboy. I will not be satisfied until I jam guitar equipment into every corner of this hillbilly shack. In fact I would have already purchased one if it had not been for the overdrive pedal that I bought instead.

Not being a 7 string player, I thought they had a higher, extra thin string rather than like a low B? People always complain about breaking strings on them.

Yeah a lot of metallers tune down as far as C, which is close to baritone (tuned down a 4th). Do Korn use baritone guitars or just really dropped tuning?

Noodling. It has nothing to do with catching fish. It's got to do with fish catching you.

Most of the 7 stingers I've seen come with a low B. As far as what Korn uses, a quick google search turns up 7 string Ibby's.
