Used vs New Schecter

I posted this over at schecterforum, but the regulars here always have some helpful advice.

I’ve been saving up for a C-1 Blackjack. The shop where I take my lessons is an authorized dealer, so I’ve been able to try one out. I really liked the tones I was getting. It will be a few more months before I have all the cash in hand, since I really don’t want to put it on the credit card (wife would kill me if I did).

So now my dilemma, I was looking around at the used market, and I came across a C-1 XXX. How do these two guitars compare? I’m not sure on the specs of the XXX since the Guitar Center website has it listed as the same pickups as the Blackjack. But, in reading the reviews, someone pointed out that the pickups are different from what’s listed on the website. It wouldn’t be the first time I’ve seen guitar specs not listed correctly, so can anybody tell me what the real specs are? Also, how does the XXX compare to the Blackjack.

FWIW, if I get the Blackjack from the shop, he puts together a nice little package and I get the warranty. If the XXX is comparable, then I can save some money up front and have it this weekend.

G'day and welcome to the forom.
Obviously not many people here know much about used Schecters, me included. And I can't give any advice except to say you buy what you like the sound of, regardless of the specs.
But I'm curious to know what you decided to do. Are you waiting for the new one, or have you landed the other one already?

One of the guys at the schecter forum pointed out that the pickups were Duncan Designed instead of Seymour Duncan on the XXX. Almost everything else about the two were the same.

In the end, I decided to go with the new Blackjack for a couple of reasons. One, I really liked the tones it made. Also, I'm still really new when it comes to guitar maintenance, and cutting my cost in half for potential headaches just didn't seem worth it. There are some great deals to be found on the used market, but I'd be more inclined to do so when I've got a little more experience.

My son and I are in the guitar shop every week taking lessons, so I've got a 1/2 hour to kill while he's in his. I've talked to the owner on several occasions. More importantly, I pay attention to the other customers, and they all seem to be happy with the service there.

I've heard alot of negative reviews on duncan designed pickups, but its just personal opinion in my thought.

Glad you found what you like!
