Talking electro?

I wanna buy an electric guitar but I don't have enough cash to buy a branded one, what should I look for, for a good solid body electric guitar?

I suppose that depends on what you have already as far as gear and what you want to spend. I paid $250 for my Yamaha Gigmaker EG (PAC012 guitar w/ DRIVE amp, tuner, bag, extra strings, strap, and DVD). The others I looked at in that range was Squire(there's a few different ones at different prices).

Check out GuitarCenter.com or one of the other online stores and do a search in your price range, then read their reviews and the reviews at HarmonyCentral.com to see what some ppl who have them think.

That's such a general question that it's hard to give meaningful advice. What's your budget, what kind of music do you plan on playing, and does your budget have to include an amp?

I've been playing for 3 months now. And Ive seen a lot of improvement in my technique.. all thanks to metal methods...

Problem is though, I can't keep up with some songs because my fretboards too far from the strings.

My budget's not that big..

I was just wondering what kind of setup would be best if I wanna play shred metal...

I know the strings have to be really close to the fretboard for air hammering, or whatever that technique is called...

I was thinking something along the lines of dragonforce...

Oh btw what setup do I buy pickup wise... I was thinking a cheap unbranded guitar with a good pickup setup for my playstyle would be good...

I like playing ac/dc songs and most final fantasy stuff... So it's usually more along the lines of a lead guitar... so what setup do you guys suggest the humback's and whatevers. ^_^

Thanks loads for the help...

I've been hammering out some pretty nice ac/dc stuff on my Yamaha mate... after it was set up right I dont think you could get a better guitar in the $250 range. It has 2 single coils and a humbucker, but so far I've generally only played the lead postion on teh selector when I'm doing ac/dc, which I believe only runs the front/top single coil pickup

Ah dragonforce, they use Ibanez's. But that's a name brand. Might be abit too pricey for you? I'm sure you could always check ebay. They've got alot of brand name ones cheap.

Air hammering, you mean that thing that herman Li does? That's called 2 handed tapping, if you like stuff like that like I do, you might want to have your guitar's action setup lower. Mine's just setup sooooo low that its so hard to play jazz now!

Hi Kaneashiru 1, That's a pretty tight budget, have you had a set up done on the the guitar you have that could be an alternative to buying a new one, I found one promising one in your price range a Dean EVO, my local store sells Deans they're pretty good for the price, this one might do the job. Heres the guitar, it also comes in black which I've posted a picture of, there are also a couple of reviews which are fairly good. it's a basic guitar though

Buy Dean Evo XM Electric Guitar online at Musician's Friend

Lot of the dean's are a pretty good "bang for the buck". Although I've heard mixed reviews. But I'm mainly an "ibanezshredder" at the moment.

120 is pretty low. That price range will have you aching to upgrade before to long.

For $120 I'd keep playing what you have now and then save up. rondomusic.net has some awesome deals on non-namebrand guitars, though the SX's all need setups and quality can vary quite a bit--I play an Agile AL 3000 I picked up from there and couldn't be happier, last time I took it to guitar center a guy told me he was going to order one when he got home
