Hi, my name is Erion, and I live in Kent, UK. I am new to guitar learning, and have been registered in this forum for the past few days, reading different material, most of which I have found overwhelming, being a beginner, but I haven't been put off by it, quite the opposite. The stuff here is very useful since it has given me an idea of what to expect when you start learning the guitar, a lot, really. Anyway, I have been looking around where I live for a guitar, and also on the internet. I saw one Yamaha FG730-SN, and then went to the shop near me and asked if they would match the price, and they said they would, which was good, since it brought the price down from £225.00, to £165.00 + £7.00 post. But when I took the guitar in my hands, it felt very bulky, and not very comfortable. So I asked for a smaller one. Solid top only, I asked. They showed me one Fender, GC23s. Very nice. I was tempted to buy ther and then, but then I did some research on the internet, and there isn't any reviews for it. There arw those of the sellers, but nothing private, from individuals who own them, or even played them. Then I found one Ibanez, AC90-NT, and it looks very good also. There's no reviews for it either. The Fender is @ £200.00, the Ibanez @ £185.00, so more or less the same price.
So I have some Qs, if you could help me with, please.
Can anyone tell me anything about these guitars? Which one should I buy?
Is there any other guitars, with these specs, (concert size, solid top, affordable price... c.£200.00) which you would suggest?
I found the fender very comfortable, however I like the look of the Ibanez better, and since they are the same size (I guessed that since they are both grand concert, or concert) they must be equally comfortable for me. Or could I be mistaken?
The Fender, which i looked at in the shop, was comfortable, however when I looked at the spacing between the strings and the fretboard, it's at an angle, well, I mean, it's not dead parallel, and there is a bigger gap where the fretboard joins with the body, than there is at the headstock-end of the fretboard. The difference its not big, probably half-a-time bigger at the body-end of the fretboard, than the headstock-end. Is this smth of a problem? Or is it normal? Or is it smth that can be adjusted?
Being a beginner, will I be OK with a metal-string guitar? I figured out if I persevere then my fingers will get used to it. Also, I guess i could equip myself with some nylon strings, providing that I learn how to change strings and how to tune a guitar, then I could use both, is that possible? Can a metal-string guitar use nylon strings also?
Thanks, and congratulations for the forum.
