Bar Room blues in A track

I upgraded my Adobe Audition 1.5 to 2.0 the other day. It's much different, much better. I had fun yesterday putting this BT together from some of the 'Loopology' files that come with it. It's in a, standard 12 bar format and fun to play along to.

My slide take is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=khp1yUVpmLU

Have fun!

Well i know these BT's really aren't meant for unplugged acoustic they do help to give a sense of timing. So i give a shot, its slow and i probably missed a few notes. There's a little reverb on this too....thanks kirk

I thought you'd all enjoy this one.

Tom ... I had a listen to your acoustic take. You probably noticed that there parts where you lines worked and parts where they didn't. I can tell you from experience that the parts that worked were where you were targeting chord tones, whether consciously or not. Where you weren't doing that, the lines sat uncomfortably over the chords. The chords, especially in a blues setting like this which breaks the usual 'diatonic' rules of the key and related chords, really do set the rules. My advice is to take some time out and really have a look at the chord shapes for A7, D7 and E7 and then attack this again, taking it one chord at a time, using the notes from those shapes as your primary notes. I think you'll be surprised at how it all falls into place and always sounds right when you think along those lines.

Kirk thanks, yes i just played out of the key of D down on the 10th fret. Not being much yet on knowing the fret board i kinda stay in key and hope i luck out. Of course i know thats not the way to think. Now you mentioned those chords i'll fool around with it, thanks for listening

Well, there's your trouble right there ... it's in A, not D. Do what you were doing at the 5th fret and you'll be in the ball park.

For some reason kirk i got the idea it was in D and it should have dawned on me when you gave those chords (which i tried) i'm familiar with that progression. I shall try this in A and i will try not to be so dense

They don't call it 'key' for nothing, do they! That's light years ahead of the other take, Tom. I heard you seeking out, finding and nailing real melody in this take. Bravo.
