A new backing track from me: changes

I thought I'd better do an AAT backing in order to dust off the cobbwebs! I haven't done one for quite awhile.

This one will be kind of a challenge to solo over because of my twisty changes...

changes.mp3

Kirk will be doing cartwheels over this one! It requires a very keen sense of melody to solo over. Kirk's the man!

For anyone interested, the changes composed with the guitar are posted. They are being played by the keyboard.

Have fun!

Jim

Thanks for posting that Jim

I'll make this thread a sticky, so that it doesn't get pushed down below the other threads and get lost along the way... I'm actually in the process of re-organising the forum and I'll have a special place to put backing tracks soon... but for now I'll just make it a sticky.

Thanks James ... I'll have a go it asap.

Can you please give us a rough mud chart of the chords?

Cheers ...

Sure Kirk,

I here is a GP5 file I used to compose the midi portion of the tune. It will have all the voicings. I'm not so sure what they all should be called but I'm sure you will recognize the shapes.

Can't wait to hear you on this!

Jim

OK, here's my attempt at this. Geez, James, could you have made it any harder?? All those suspended chords kept me ... well, suspended ... looking for a landing pad to park my melody lines. Anyway, I came up with this after many passes through.

Thanks, I do love a challenge.

Hey, come to think of it, where's your take?

Nicely done Kirk. I get the sus chords .but a couple of the others have me stumped. I am running into the multiple names for the same chord game. Hmmm.I just had a thought. Maybe I should think of the chord using it's simplest name to make it easier to see it all over the neck. Is that a m7sus4 I see in there?

I just spent a whole bunch of time trying to figure out the most simple names for the progression. Here is a link to the chord page for reference:

Chord Progression revised

Hope this helps!

Great take Kirk! Very cool how you did the chords at the beginning and end. Nice touch.

Very nice, why does this track make me want to pop a Steely Dan CD in?
Think I will find a quiet place and play around with this one, it seems to have jazz written all over it.

It's the mu chords that are signature Steely Dan! Looking forward to hearing your take.
