How to Play Slide Guitar in Standard/Dropped-D DVD by Kirk Lorange
If you really want to spice up your playing, slip a slide over your pinkie and add it to your musical vocabulary. There's no need to re-tune your guitar to an open tuning, just stay in standard or lower that bass string down to D. Kirk shows you how in this 70 minute DVD, talking and playing you through the basics, vibrato, muting, playing single note lines, finding all the chord flavors (they're all there!) and mixing it all into one very neat hybrid style of playing guitar. am I right that...
Do you mind 1 thread for small questions? I have some...hope it won't be like others I've posted
Am I right that fingerpicking style provides you with larger volume range as when you try to apply more force on the string it starts puching the slide off itself? - as well you can't play "loud" when the action is too small. And am i right that having a havier slide could solve that problem?

Hello Toxer,
finger picking will give you more volume and a clearer sound from each string you pick.
Sliding , like all gtr is about control and if you are punching the strings off the slide the question really is , is this a sound I want or poor control.
Low action and slide just will not work, especially on an acoustic.
A heavier slide is good as it is acting as a moveable nut.
So for a accoustic, try 13 guage strings and see if that lifts your action so as not to have a fret rattle, or the slide rattle off the frets( well not too much) before you look to raising the bridge height.
adios,
Lovat

Am I right that the quietly you can play the better-intonated your playing could be concerning electric and picked-up acuostic guitars?

Well Toxer,
playing is about control, playing quietly or loudly needs the same control.
I personally like playing hard and loud on the guitar rather than having a loud pa as I think the guitar "opens" up this way.
I haven't played much electric , perhaps Kirk can tell us how he does it.

both
I play on both electric and acoustic I like med guage strings and a brass slide on acoustic, med-light strings and glass on electic both played finger-style The fun thing about electric is that you can get many more tone colorings from your amp, pickups, effects, etc. The thing is to get your OWN tone and sound. the ability to play RELAXED is crucial. I always try to go for precision over speed then when you play faster the accuracy will be there my 2cents
Peace,
Denny...

Hello Denny,
there was a great BBC radio 2 item on Howlin Wolf last night ( by Bruce "Iron Maiden "Dickinson). Part two is next Tuesday.
Anyway The Wolf told Hubert Sumlin that he had to put down his pick and use his fingers, Hubert objected and then started it and produced the mainstay riff in Wolf's biggest hit "Smokestack Lighting".
Hubert also says that he had his teeth knocked out by the Wolf for disagreeing, Wolf also said that he challenged Muddy for Hubert to return to his band on this occassion Muddy started crying, but previously he had pulled a gun on Wolf.

Thanks for the link!
Another little question)
Am I right that compeared to fingerpicking using chromatic scale looses its ""sharpness" against forexample a major chord when you play it with a clide (chromatics)?
