Anybody know who was the first person to record the slide and what song was it?

I heard that W.C Handy was the first but I am not sure.

I think it is generally agreed upon that the first people to make slide guitar recordings were Hawaiian musicians.

W.C. Handy was not a guitar player, you might be thinking of the story about him first hearing blues music - W.C. was at a train depot when he heard someone playing a tune which could very likely have been "Poor Boy Long Ways From Home" lap-style with a pocketknife.
