How to Play Slide Guitar in Standard/Dropped-D DVD by Kirk Lorange
If you really want to spice up your playing, slip a slide over your pinkie and add it to your musical vocabulary. There's no need to re-tune your guitar to an open tuning, just stay in standard or lower that bass string down to D. Slide Virgin
hey im a total novice at slide, ive been playing guitar for 3/4 years but only rocky sutff, this year i have been trying to focus on theory and branching out so i have bought a new acoustic and my g/f bought me a slide. i am totally lost at the moment but will keep searching the internet and maybe go buy a book, nice to meet you all!

A book I highly recommend for a beginner is Arlen Roth's old book on the topic. Don't remember the title right now, have it at home. Probably "Slide Guitar" or something like that. It has Bukka White on the cover.

Tune to your favorite open tuning then relearn all the scales and chords in that tuning.
