This should be easy but I'm also learning improvisation from scratch. I'm using pentatonic's and partial chords but it doesn't sound very good.

Does anyone have any tips? Maybe I just need to keep making a noise - one day it might sound good.

That's what my DVD teaches, tina_ ... standard and dropped D. Check out Slide Guitar Web Ring - Bottleneck Guitar and watch some of those movies of me playing. They're all in dropped D, but just the bass string down, so it's pretty much standard.
