How to Play Slide Guitar in Standard/Dropped-D DVD by Kirk Lorange

If you really want to spice up your playing, slip a slide over your pinkie and add it to your musical vocabulary. There's no need to re-tune your guitar to an open tuning, just stay in standard or lower that bass string down to D. Kirk shows you how in this 70 minute DVD, talking and playing you through the basics, vibrato, muting, playing single note lines, finding all the chord flavors (they're all there!) and mixing it all into one very neat hybrid style of playing guitar.   Slide Diddy

This original started out as a test for some pickups in a Washburn WI62 Idol. I was trying Seymour Duncan and Gibson pickups on that thing and put together several versions.

To make a long story short ... I picked the SD '59 neck and the Gibson 498T bridge. The song is set up to be 1st minute neck ... 2nd minute middle ... 3rd minute bridge.

The drums are from a yamaha keyboard, played a Yamaha bass, and a rhthym guitar. I ended up liking the tune in the end and kept the final version of the guitar on my website.

Here she is ... Side Diddy

I told you guys ... you'd have to tell me to stop.

Thanks ... I was pleased with the backing although the drums were from a $200 yamaha keyboard. This one is standard tuning ...

Ken:

That really rocked. Did you learn your technique from Kirk. At some point I want to get into the slide. I have the vid. but want to get comfortable with the PT first. Thanks and keep em comin.

thanks again ... actually only recently started with Kirk's technique in slide and PT. This was open tuning ... glass slide.

Kirk's slide method teaches the same right hand technique that I use ... he's just better at it. Also, Kirk's approach shows you where to find more 2-string and 3-string opportunities ... based on his PT method. Also ... I'm beginning to use the drop-d tuning that Kirk uses more and more ... which lets me keep doing what I know in standard tuing but opens up the low registers for lots of opportunity. It's easy to tune down to drop-d and back up to standard tuning, as well w/o changing guitars.

I recommend Kirk's slide materials. It's got stuff for new sliders and can help old sliders with bad habits too ... like myself.

  Already awesome

Thanks Ken:

I have Kirks really cool slide material and have been watching his great technique. Just want to get a better grip on PT before taking on the slide seriously. I play around a bit for fun but seems to sound like a cat with its tail caught in the door. But as we know it all comes with practice and dedication. Since getting into PT guitar mindset guitar has actually become more fun and opened up new horizons.

Love the sound that your getting out of your playing. Great technique. Keep em comin. It is great to hear others on the forum from beginners to quality players like yourself. This is truly a great learning environment for all players at any level.

Danny
