What's the deal with chromatic scale?

Hi all!

What's the deal with using chromatic scale in "runs" opposed to use any other scale? I saw a lot of chromatic runs in modern blues and mostly at blues competitions (King of the blues in US). Please comment.

O.

Isn't the chromatic scale all notes? So basically everything you play is in the chromatic scale.

Hey Jay Jay,
Les Paul is amazing as well but it just seems to me that Django was the one who did those lightening fast chromatic runs - kind of a trade mark.
cheers,
Doug
