What to play?

Well, let's say I know my chord tones, but, what to play from them? I play 1-b3-5-b7 of let's say for minor 7th. Sounds generic. I play with them, but I always end up bluesy or something . I'd like some suggestions on what chord tones to combine. I know I should explore it by myself, but if there are some suggestions...

Not sure if this thread makes sense, but ok.

2,6,9,11,.13s for jazz. Bend a 2 up to a 3 or the other way around for a country twang. Natural 7s for ambient stuff and jazz. Double stops for anything.

I just grabbed the guitar some time before, and found a nice melody via Dm7th add9th only. (not sure if I named it correctly). Guess it depends on my mood.

Nope. Since it has a 7th in it, it would just be called a Dm9.

Try learning some different llicks from other genres to give you some other ideas. Also try varying your phrasing, and displace some of the tones. By that I mean jump an octave or play up in intervals of a 5th or 7th or whatever. You can also add some chromatics in too - which is one of my favourite things to do.
