  Blues question

Is there a very basic Blues enrty level lesson ?

My son and I are still very much learning the guitar even though it has been 2 years and now we have discovered we both like listening to very simular music styles such as Jonny Cash etc ...

But to my surprise I found out he adores the very old blues music just as much as I do so can someone direct us to a very easy lesson on how to start ...

I can play a little Blues riff I heard but thats all ..I don't even know from what song it came from ..

Cheers

Trev...

there are blues lessons here too.
The Arpeggio Blues
Some are easier than others. Some would make great duets. One playing the tune and the other jamming over it.

I would use more from the second lesson as the shuffle pattern is so much better and easier to play by drooping to A instead of sliding up to A in my opinion. To spice it up slightly where you play 02 02 04 04 you can play this sequence and it sounds good 02 02 04 04 05 05 by placing your pinky on the 5th fret. Once you have the the basics you can then play around with your own rhythm but stick to the basic rules of 12 bar blues and you will have some fun.

If you play lead on acoustic play the 3rd and 4 th position e minor pentatonic scale and it will sound great and on electric play the 4th and 5th and back to the start on the 12 fret for some great bluesy tone. I would not bother getting stressed out learning licks or riffs make up your own after a couple of weeks you will be suprised at what you can do then maybe take a peek at some of the great licks to take you to the next level.

Best of luck, let us know how you get on

I'm also the author of PlaneTalk - The Truly Totally Different Guitar Instruction Book. The lesson that this book, slide-rule and DVD teach is the most powerful of all: the 'trick' to seeing the entire fretboard as friendly, familiar territory. If you're beyond the beginner stage -- you know your chords, scales, maybe even modes -- but you're still wondering how to turn it all into music, how to invent and improvise, how to access all the bits and pieces, then this is the book for you. You will also be able to join the private PlaneTalkers' Forum and discuss the simple visualization technique with me and many others. - Read more here .

Testimonials

Kirk - I recently purchased your book Plane Talk (PDF format) and am currently making my second pass through it. Even on the first quick read-through, concepts that have eluded me all these years of playing were finally clarified. So thanks, I expect to get a lot out of it.
