How to Play Slide Guitar in Standard/Dropped-D DVD by Kirk Lorange
If you really want to spice up your playing, slip a slide over your pinkie and add it to your musical vocabulary. There's no need to re-tune your guitar to an open tuning, just stay in standard or lower that bass string down to D. that g at the fitht fret gives me grief when I am trying to play tab thats written in standard sometimes. I think you will have to modify your style. I am working on mine to do that.

Warren Haynes says he plays a lot in standard tuning, so I am tring to do more and more of that. I got pretty comfortable in the open D for a lot of tunes.
And Paul Barre of Little Feat is a monster at mixing slide notes with fretted notes, and I believe all that is in standard tuning as well.
