If what she wants to play is jazz she should find a teacher that specializes in teaching jazz. She'll still start at the beginning ("this is a C", etc.) but they'll be able to lay the foundation to get her where she wants to go more quickly.
In case you're thinking of teaching her yourself, DON'T! People usually take instruction from strangers far more easily than they do from family members/significant others. Offer advice only when asked and encouragement on a regular basis.
