A number of things could cause the buzzing, some simple to remedy some more complex. Were there any buzzes before the string broke? Which fret(s) does the string buzz on? The quality of the strings should not usually make a difference to buzzes. Your action may be too low, the string is not sitting on the saddle or nut properly, the neck may be warped, it could be many things. Check the saddle first.
There are some good deals on the internet if you shop around for strings. I am convinced that Elixir strings are the best invention for the acoustic guitar, ever. They are expensive to buy at £8-£9 a set but they last ages. I put a set on my guitar in October and play daily. They are as bright as the day I put them on so you could argue that they are cheap in the long run. I would recommend them if you can afford the initial lay out.
Yes you can buy separate strings. Just remember what gauge they are .011, 012 etc.
Hope this helps Jess
