Acoustic Guitar recommendations for beginner

Hello all.. I'm looking at getting my first guitar and based on the information on this site it seems that an acoustic nylon string guitar is the way to go. I have a budget of around $200 to work with and I wanted to know what is recommended to use for that price range. Of course, I understand that the more you spend the better quality guitar you can get, but I wanted to get my feet wet without spending too much.

Thanks and I appreciate your advice and recommendations!!!

hi, Booyah24

i hope you will really enjoy your guitar. i have a few tips for you as i want you to love your guitar. All you need is 15 min a day.

First learn 3 chords like D, A7, G now strum them maybe 5 times and then go to the next chord again 5 times and so on and on. this will at first seems tidious but it will get your moves faster and more precise as another friendly person here said it is all in the hands.

try different strumming technices.
I wish you good practice.

by the way all songs are out there on the net with lyrics and chords.
then after playing for a week get more chords under your fingers expand your chord library.

if you need sheet music then I will show you where you can get them.
I am a classical player myself, right now practicing "Elegia"

Tone is in the fingers.....a great guitarist will still sound great on a cheap guitar, and a bad guitarist will still sound like poo on the finest professional-quality rig.
I will second that. I picked up some of Ed Gerhard's cd's and he's awesome. Especially the 'House of Guitars' one, very interesting story behind the making of it.

Good luck with your choice!

I wouldn't spend alot of money right away. go to a pawn shop and spend $100 to see if you like playing guitar. Playing is great fun and very rewarding but it's alot of work. No matter what you get, you will upgrade as soon as your playing improves anyway.

The GfB&B Guitar Slide Rule

Download the PDF of the 'Guitar Chord Slide Rule', print it out, fold it together and you'll have at your disposal a very neat tool that will not only show you all the positions for the main flavors of chords, but will also teach you a very important lesson about how the guitar works... It consists of a folded sleeve and six double sided inserts, instructions for cutting it out and folding it together are included with the PDF ... it's very simple to do, and if you botch it, you can simply print it out again!
